Arguably one of the most understated of all watch manufacturers, Glashütte Original not only specializes in the watchmaking side of the business, it also has a special talent for aesthetic perfection.

CASE

The 41 mm case is 14 mm thick and has a smoothly polished workmanship on the top of the case and a finely brushed workmanship on the sides and behind the lugs. The polished platinum crown has a round, blue cabochon in the center, and the chronograph pushers are also made of polished platinum.

Ingredients

While there are several models available in a variety of materials, from stainless steel to 18-karat rose gold, it's the platinum 950 model at the top of the range that we're spotlighting today. Platinum is approximately 60% heavier than gold, so you'll feel that heft you'd expect from a high-end luxury watch.

Glashütte Original Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is mechanically powered by the in-house produced Glashütte Original caliber 37-01 automatic movement, adjusted to 5 different positions. The 65-jewel in-house caliber 37-01 is a high-vibration movement that works steadily at a rhythm of 28,800 VpH (Oscillations Per Hour).

The Saxony watchmaker stops at nothing to produce movements that sparkle from their sapphire display case backs. They use a combination of craftsmanship methods and blued screws that you expect from traditional Saxon watchmaking to create a brilliant, German-made caliber.

The stainless steel self-winding rotor uses a Glashutte line finish. It bears a Glashutte logo skeletonized in 21 carat gold embedded within and has polished corners and beveled edges in 21 carat gold.

The double-disc Panorama Date date window is located in the very center of the dial, above the 6 position, with large, bold numerals written in a serif-style font and the handwritten Glashutte logo just below.

On the gold and platinum model with a silver dial, you will see finely printed black Roman numerals used as hour markers. Stainless steel models, on the other hand, use lume hour markers and Roman numerals for the 12 and 6 positions. On models with black dials, the colors are reversed on all dial prints.

Numerals and hour markers are located on the inside of the finely printed railroad track-style minute and seconds track. A tachymeter scale is printed around the dial, and a thin, sans-serif style font is used for the various graduations.

Auxiliary Dials

Two of the sub dials are used for chronograph functions. These are the 30-minute sub dial at position 3. There is also a 12-hour counter located at the 12 position. Finally, at position 9 of the dial, there is a small seconds subdial with a power reserve indicator integrated into the upper left quadrant of the subdial.

Hour and Minute Hands

All hour and minute hands on the dial, including the chronograph subdials, are made of blued steel. The hour hand is shaped like a spade, while the thin minute hand tapers towards the center. There is a thin central chronograph seconds hand with a Glashutte logo on the opposite end as weight balance.
