Few watches take my breath away the way this watch does at first glance. At the time of writing this article, there are four models in the series. The enlarged model with a skeleton dial in the main image of this blog post is a limited edition model. It's a light magnet, with a textured Guilloche dial that looks hand-forged and is engraved in a delicate Fibonacci-style pattern.

Caliber 36-02

The surprising thing is that what's most impressive about this watch isn't its appearance, it's what's under the hood. The in-house Glashütte Caliber 36 that powers this watch is truly on another level. For a watchmaker like Glashütte Original, which has been in business since 1845, creating a new movement is a bit of a ritual, and often, just when they think they're ready, they come up with another new feature that makes the caliber even more extraordinary.

Glashütte Caliber 36 has the following features: magnetically resistant silicone mainspring, 4 days/100 hours power reserve, adjustment with 4 screws, bi-directional automatic winding thanks to the 21 carat gold oscillating weight on the edge of the rotor, and of course a bayonet mounting system. This mechanism makes it possible to keep time without interruption with its full perpetual calendar function, including a leap year indicator. The caliber is also adjusted for 6 different positions; whereas most watch manufacturers only adjust to 5 positions.

As with all Glashütte Original calibers, this one is perfectly crafted with various craftsmanship techniques, blued screws and pink rubies; It is the signature of German watchmakers from a small town called Glashütte in the Saxony region.

Let's examine the movement photos to take a look inside this watch and see the working architecture of Caliber 36-02.

Apart from the limited edition model I mentioned at the beginning of this article, there are three more models we will cover in this collection.

One model, reference 1-36-02-01-02-30, has a 42 mm stainless steel case and is mounted on a strap with a black alligator buckle. Another model comes with a stainless steel case and stainless steel bracelet and the reference number is 1-36-02-01-02-70.

Finally, reference 1-36-02-02-05-30 is the 18 carat pink gold version with a brown alligator leather strap and 18 carat rose gold deployant buckle. It should also be noted that several variations were made on this model with different buckles. Reference 1-36-02-02-05-50 comes with a short buckle, and reference 1-36-02-02-05-01 comes with a buckle buckle. Other than differences in case material and different straps/bracelets, there are only a few subtle differences between these 3 models.

The 18-karat rose gold model has a dial that Glashütte calls "lacquered silver"; It's a warmer shade of off-white and blends beautifully with the rose gold case, with the color contrast alongside the blued steel hour and minute hands completing everything.

Additionally, the Arabic numerals for the five-minute interval markers and the number 4 in the leap year indicator are printed in red on the rose gold model; not in black like the other two stainless steel models.

The calendar buttons are designed recessed and can be seen from the side of the 12.8 mm thick case. In the image above, you can also see the brushed workmanship and polished chamfered edge on the side of the case. You will notice that the ears also use polished workmanship on the top and brushed workmanship on the sides. The crown also has polished workmanship.

Conclusion: Overall, this is a feature-packed watch from a high-end brand. It has a perpetual calendar, moon phase, leap year indicator and an excellent power reserve. It is expertly manufactured, beautifully crafted, and its mechanism is simply breathtaking to watch. At this price, it will be quite difficult to find another high-complication watch of this quality from a reputable brand like Glashütte. While this isn't exactly a cheap watch, it looks great, has impeccable workmanship and certainly lives up to expectations in its price range.
