Comparison between Rolex Submariner Original and Super Clone (ETA)
In this video recording, the original Rolex Submariner (126610LN) reference and its super clone counterpart with Dandong 3235 movement produced by VS Factory / Clean Factory are disassembled side by side and put under the spotlight. In the examination, not only the outer surface of the case; The crown seal, the clicking feeling of the ceramic bezel, the laser engraved crown at 6 o'clock on the dial, and the internal gear tolerances of the movement were tested one-on-one.
| Criteria Examined | Original Model | Super Clone (VS / Clean) | Workshop and Test Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Case and Bracelet Steel | Oystersteel (904L Stainless Steel) | 904L Stainless Steel | The weight difference is less than 1 gram (158.5g vs 158.1g). Traces of corrosion and scrubbing cannot be distinguished under a microscope. |
| Mechanism (Caliber) | Rolex Caliber 3235 (Superlative Chronometer) | Dandong 3235 Complete Clone movement | The parts are exactly interchangeable with the original caliber. There is a free-swinging balance wheel. |
| Power Reserve | Approximately 70 Hours | Approximately 70-72 Hours | Mainspring torque was measured on a timegrapher; 71 hours of continuous operation verified. |
| Dial and Laser Crown | Micro laser crown at 6 o'clock | Micro laser crown at 6 o'clock | It cannot be noticed with the naked eye; Under a 10x magnifying glass, the original crown points are slightly more homogeneous. |
| Ceramic Bezel and Numerals | Cerachrom Ceramic (Platinum PVD Fill) | Real Ceramic (Platinum PVD Coating) | The click sound and bezel hardness are extremely full and smooth at 120 clicks; It does not darken. |
| Waterproof Test | 300 Meters / 1000 Feet | 3 Bar / 30 Meters (Workshop tested) | It has successfully passed the 3 bar test on the pressure tester; but it is not recommended for deep diving. |
Workshop Note: What Detail Gives It Away?
The distinction between the original Submariner and a high-end super clone model has narrowed to the point that it is no longer obvious from the outer casing or weight. The only definitive method by which the watch can be distinguished is by opening the caseback and listening to a watchmaker for the color of the balance spring (the original uses a blue Parachrom spring, while the clone models have a special alloy metal spring) and the mechanical winding resistance heard when turning the crown.
