Zenith Chronomaster El Primero 38 mm Review

My first impression is that the 38mm Zenith El Primero looks and feels like a larger watch on the wrist. When you compare it to famous chronographs like the 42mm Speedmaster or the 40mm Cosmograph Daytona, you notice that the dial looks larger on the El Primero; Because there is no bezel that takes up that extra space on the dial, as in Omega and Rolex chronographs.

Since we are talking about the Rolex Daytona, it is worth mentioning that the Cosmograph Daytona used the El Primero movement for a while (a small but fun piece of information).

Let's examine the details and information about the iconic El Primero mechanism:

The production of all 278 parts that make up the El Primero caliber takes nine months. 300 sets of hour and minute hands come into play during the production and assembly process. First 5Hz / 36,000 VpH high vibration chronograph; It works so fast you can barely see the balance as it moves. It is a column-wheel chronograph and has a horizontal clutch to make room for other complications such as a triple calendar and moon phase. It has a jumping minute hand. Very few in-house chronographs are under XXX. It was the first, or at least one of the first, automatic chronograph movement ever produced. It was by far the best chronograph at the time it was released. El Primero movement, also Inc. Comparison between the new Zenith Chronomaster El Primero 38 mm and the original 1969 El Primero

Three-tone sub-dials on a silver sunburst dial. The tri-coloured, overlapping secondary dials are layered slightly differently than the original; In the new models, the secondary dial in the middle was on the top layer, while in the old models, the secondary dial at 6 o'clock was layered under the other two secondary dials. There are countless styles of El Primero 38mm. There is also a larger, half-skeleton Open El Primero 42 mm, a flashier Full Open El Primero 38 mm, and a Full Open 42 mm version, also with a full skeleton version. In my opinion, they are all dazzling watches; But there are always purists who prefer the look of the standard, skeletonless version that more closely resembles the original. Who can blame them?
