How to choose between V7 Factory IWC Mark XVIII and Portofino?

They are at a very high level in terms of quality control, workmanship and price-performance. They leave the factory in many different configurations: the cheapest and most common is the regular calfskin leather version with the Seagull mechanism; There is also a version with Swiss mechanism and crocodile leather. As for the mechanism, there is only the Seagull mechanism; It is said that both watches have closed backs, so the mechanism is not visible. If you are going to make your choice considering price-performance, the Seagull mechanism would be a little more advantageous. But if you plan to use it for a long time, the ETA 2892 movement is actually better. It's entirely personal preference. In terms of appearance, there is no difference between ETA and Seagull.

There is no such problem. If it is with an ETA movement, the V7 factory puts a seal on a random screw at the exit; The seal of the ETA mechanism is not allowed to be removed, and when we take it in hand, we are not allowed to disassemble it, which prevents some people from changing the mechanism. Because the Swiss mechanism is at least much more expensive. The second reason not to have it removed is about how we can distinguish it; In fact, it is already separated at the factory, bagged and labeled, and it is stated which mechanism and which leather it is. The factory separates them properly and does not mix them.

For example, this is the platinum version with a blue ray pattern dial; The original is also platinum. They write 'platinum version' on it, the factory does its job very meticulously, and so does Mark. They do not make mistakes regarding the mechanism, so it is not possible for us to receive the wrong product. This situation is very rare, almost never occurs; No errors have occurred so far. As for the platinum Portofino that I just mentioned, if you actually pay attention, the case of the original version is made of precious metal, there is a slight difference between it and the original: the replica is stainless steel. But platinum and stainless steel are only visually similar; the only difference is that platinum is slightly brighter. There's just that much of a difference, it's not really that big. Under the light, platinum or precious metal shines a little more. If you want to buy the ordinary model, its original is also the stainless steel version; those with black dial, white dial and blue dial, there is also a 150th anniversary version; The originals are also stainless steel. The only difference is that this model is platinum; The engraving on the case back is also different. There are also stamp marks on precious metal ones, such as the scales and Saint Bernard dog head, which should be on the AU750. There is a difference between precious metal and ordinary stainless steel; You can distinguish it at a glance by looking at the stamp.

Like that Mark XVIII model; Because it is ordinary stainless steel, there is no precious metal marking on it. Know that the blue dial Mark XVIII is also quite well made. The entire strap is exactly the same as the original; brown calfskin, not crocodile leather. If you want crocodile skin, you can have it installed yourself later, but that is a separate issue, a different situation. The price-performance ratio is very high, with the factory-made calfskin in the same color as the original. Portofino, on the other hand, is a little more rounded; It feels more comfortable in the hand and feels better. Portofino's hour and minute hands are all processed with rounded corners, and the date window is very well aligned. Basically over 95% of the V7 factory's watches once we get our hands on them we don't even touch them because the quality control is really good. Let's come to Mark XVIII; It is a little harder and sharper compared to Portofino, and has a different style than Portofino. The blue dial is also very beautiful. Both models are classic watches. Portofino doesn't have lume, but Mark does; There is lume on both the hour markers and the hour and minute hands. The Little Prince pattern is engraved on the closed case back.

On the Mark XVIII Little Prince, the one with the blue dial has the Little Prince pattern on the back, and the one with the white dial has the airplane; So it varies a little bit. Each color is different and the case back is also different. The workmanship is truly impeccable. Both watches use sapphire glass; Since the dial itself is already blue, it is not felt that it is coated in blue. If it were black, you would clearly notice the blue coating on the glass; very good. As for the color recommendation, the Mark XVIII comes in black, blue, brown and white dial options, all of which are actually well made. Portofino has more color options. In general, just choose the one with a white steel case; I wouldn't recommend the rose gold or two-tone ones. As for other classic watches, the V7 factory currently makes these two models the best; I personally like to recommend these too.
