Every time I examine a Patek Philippe watch, I feel like it requires special attention. As arguably the most respected haute horlogerie brand in the industry, a certain level of sophistication and elegance is required.

Calatrava is one of the most classic Patek Philippe watches, with many models designed with what they call 'legendary purity'. Most Calatrava watches are classically designed, with simple dials consisting of either a three-hand design with a date window or a two-hand design with a small seconds sub-dial.

The model we are reviewing here is Calatrava 6006G. Some design elements are clearly taken from Patek Calatrava's older models; such as the offset small seconds subdial that can be found on the reference #5000 and #6000 models produced in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The watch features a stylish black sunray dial that uses a sans serif font for its white printed numerals. A central minute track and a shifted seconds track are also printed on the dial in black and white. Look closely and you can see how this dial is made, and it's pretty impressive to say the least. Looking closely through the loupe allows you to see the level of detail on the sub-dial. Its embossed texture has a radial pattern reminiscent of a classic vinyl record, but in white.

The main dial uses polished skeleton hands for the hour and minute hands, and a finely polished needle for the date hand. The date hand has a bright red arrowhead at the tip, indicating the day of the month. The small seconds hand is also polished and rectangular, appearing as thin as the date hand.

On a Calatrava watch, index (line) hour markers are more commonly found than regular numerals; This keeps the design clean and simple. However, compared to most Calatrava models, the Patek 6006G-001 arguably stands out as the most intense-looking Patek Calatrava currently in production. Patek Philippe's designers used printed Arabic numerals for both the hour markers and the date track printed around the dial.

This caliber operates at 3Hz or 21,600 oscillations per hour and uses some of Patek Philippe's most innovative proprietary components and materials; for example Gyromax balance and Spiromax balance springs.
