Longines Legend Diver Automatic Review

The Longines Wristwatch model is produced by the leading Super Clone manufacturer workshops with a solid stainless steel case, 42 mm diameter and ETA 2824-2 caliber in Swiss norms architecture. It is among the most successful 1:1 super clone watch reviews on the market, with its sapphire crystal AR coating glass, original case tolerances and detailed workmanship.

Today we will take a detailed look at the Longines Legend Diver, a remake of the original model introduced nearly sixty years ago in 1960. Over the last year or so I've noticed a growing trend among watch manufacturers: they're bringing back a vintage model and equipping it with a new and improved mechanical movement.

HOW THE LEGEND STARTED

There is a certain charm in a watch with a slight, or sometimes not at all slight, vintage look. Many watch manufacturers are moving in this direction. For example, not so long ago, Omega re-released its popular trio of 1957 watches. That period in watchmaking history holds tremendous appeal for collectors even today. Especially for those old-spirited collectors who are in this world for the horology side of the business and appreciate the fascinating history and evolution of the industry.

“LLD”, as it is known to some watch enthusiasts, traces its origins to the late 50s and early 60s, an era of a certain elegance. This elegance was greatly reflected in the newly emerging watches from the mid-fifties to the early sixties.

The Longines Legend Diver came to light only 7 years after the introduction of the first modern diving watch, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. This was a point where the market segment for dive watches was boiling with excitement and the demand for dive watches was now surging towards its peak.

Let's Come to Today

More than sixty years have passed since this watch was first introduced, and during this time Longines has sought to further improve a watch that already had many advantages. There have been some significant improvements to the 2020 Longines Legend Diver collection, and we'll cover them all in this review. First, let's take a look at the different styles offered in the Longines Legend Diver 2020 series.

Different Models

Some models have a stainless steel mesh bracelet, like the model shown here. Other models have a fabric strap, there are also models that come with a rubber strap, and each one is equipped with a new caliber under the hood.

The two models that come with steel bracelets are cosmetically identical, but the mechanisms that operate them are different. The model shown here is with reference number # L3.674.4.50.6 (aka L36744506) and comes with a hardcover book titled The Longines Sport Legends Collection, The Book of Exploits.

The watch is secured to the wrist with a steel folding clasp with a safety latch and is powered by the Longines L633 caliber. This caliber is an ébauche movement based on the reliable 25 jewel ETA 2824-2 caliber. It operates at a constant 28,800 VPH/4Hz and has a 38-hour power reserve.

The other steel bracelet model (reference # L3.774.4.50.6 (aka L37744506) is secured to the wrist with a push-button folding clasp and has a different caliber: the 21-jewel Longines L888, based on the ETA A31.L01 caliber. This movement operates at a slightly lower rate, 25,200, making it a 3.5Hz movement, but only when fully wound It significantly outperforms the L633 with a longer power reserve of approximately 65 hours. Other models using this longer-lasting movement include:

Model L3.774.4.50.0 (L37744500): It comes with a black fabric strap with white stitching and uses the L888 movement.

Model L3.774.4.50.9 (L37744509): It has a steel case, comes with a black rubber strap and uses the L888 movement.

Model L3.774.2.50.9 (L37742509): It has a black PVD case, comes with a black rubber strap and uses the L888 movement.

CASE

The case of this watch is 42 mm in diameter, made of solid stainless steel and has a nice polished workmanship. Curved lugs extending from both sides of the case help adapt to the shape of your wrist. The double winding crown on the right side of the case has a grooved texture on its sides and a checkered pattern on its ends. This makes it easier to hold the crown. A light bezel surrounding the sapphire glass stands out. The addition of sapphire glass is one of the numerous improvements in the reproduction of the Longines Legend Diver watch.

Dial & Bezel

Another thing that impressed me about the watches of this series is the bidirectional rotating bezel positioned on the inner side of the dial, behind the newly added scratch-resistant sapphire glass. The bezel has a downward-pointing triangle that glows in the dark to indicate the starting point, and the hour markers on the inside of the dial are highlighted by a small lume square. Arabic numerals are used to mark the 12, 6 and 9 hour positions and are marked with a long line made of lume material. The figure at position 12 shows this lume line as an underline below the number, the figure at position 6 has the line above the number, and the figure at position 9 shows this lume line on the right side.

The inner dial features a finely printed, index-style seconds chart. The bezel around the dial uses a combination of Arabic numerals, sword-shaped indices and dots. There is also a date window with a thin printed bezel at the 3 o'clock position.

Waterproof

Whichever model you choose, you'll get a quality dive watch with an impressive 300m/1000ft water resistance rating. The new Longines Legend Diver series features a solid case back depicting a professional diver holding a spear or most likely a harpoon.

Other Privileges
