Girard Perregaux Laureato Skeleton Automatic 42 mm Review
There has always been something about the GP Laureato series that attracts the attention of watch enthusiasts. This was the case even long before the series' reboot in 2017, which celebrated its 225th anniversary. This interest dates back to the mid-1970s when the series was first introduced; It had the appeal of the then (and still) trendy AP Royal Oak models designed by Gerald Genta, with their very distinctive octagonal geometry. Interestingly enough, the Laureato watch was designed by someone more mysterious.
Laureato Skeleton Automatic 42 mm is an eye-catching and head-turning watch. The seamless integration of case and bracelet creates an extremely versatile look; It can be worn as both a sporty and classic watch. The model featured in this review carries the reference number 81015-32-176032A and is a special edition exclusive to the North American market.
The 42 mm case is too balanced to be considered an oversized watch, but large enough to be trendy. With a thickness of only 10.93 mm, the watch can be easily hidden under a shirt cuff. The case offers a water resistance rating of 100m/330ft; This is enough to wash your hands with cold water or even take a light swim by the pool, but it is not suitable for anything serious.
One of the most striking features of the watch is the dial. Despite the dial's many beautiful features, the most eye-catching detail is the cobalt blue tone used on the hour markers, dial flange, and sword-shaped hour and minute hands. The skeletonized dial itself is a sight to behold and uses a fascinating geometry.
Although the dial is almost entirely in a smooth black tone with an anthracite finish; The delicate sparkles of yellow gold, stainless steel and small pink horological stones remind us that Girard Perregaux also cares about remaining sophisticated and stylish.
The octagonal bezel is made of scratch-resistant black ceramic material with radial brushed workmanship and sits on a round disc with polished workmanship, adding depth to the appearance on the front of the case. On the back of the case, there is a transparent sapphire glass framed by polished black ceramic material and fixed with 6 screws.
The in-house Caliber GP 01800 is truly breathtaking; It combines the use of a rich black ceramic material in the plates and bridges with a solid rose gold rotor that enables automatic winding. This skeletonized movement uses anthracite treated parts with brushed finish to match the case.
This self-made movement consists of 173 components and contains 25 jewels. It oscillates at a frequency of 4Hz or 28,800 VpH and offers an ample power reserve of approximately 54 hours when fully wound.
The bracelet has highly polished link center links. Together with its polished winding crown, it adds a modern elegance to its brushed bracelet links. The bracelet fits wrists up to 8 inches and is secured with a stainless steel folding clasp that opens by pressing the polished buttons on either side of the bracelet.
