At first glance, what will probably catch your attention most about this watch is the dial and how multi-dimensional it is. It is built on layers of fine textures, from wavy and textured sunburst guilloche patterns to appliqué Roman numerals. It looks rich, sophisticated and classic all at the same time.

Finely printed black Arabic numerals surround the inner dial and are printed on a smooth, textureless chapter ring. These printed numerals are used for GMT and the applique around the dial is located between the Roman numerals and the center of the dial.

Part of what makes this dial so pleasant to look at is the use of texture and certain areas that have been left untextured. For example, the area where the GMT numbers I mentioned above are printed, the alarm power reserve indicator, the alarm setting sub-dial, the alarm on/off indicator and the date window. Despite the asymmetrical design, the contrast and placement of these elements give the dial a perfect visual balance.

Polished rose gold leaf-shaped hour and minute hands are used for the hour and minute hands, which are slightly skeletonized like pinholes. Below the hour and minute hands is a blued steel arrow-shaped hand with a bevel on the central shaft where the hands rotate. The width of the tip of the GMT hand extends slightly from either side of the hour and minute hands, showing you a small glint of blued steel.

You will notice the polished rose gold Arabic numerals on the alarm setting subdial located at 3 o'clock. This sub-dial and power reserve indicator use baton-shaped polished rose gold. Solid gold has that heaviness you look for in a luxury watch, and that has to do with the case material used in this model. Blancpain Villeret Reveil GMT watch works with an automatic movement of its own production. In-house caliber 1240h, equipped with an anti-magnetic silicone mainspring. This 36-jewel self-winding movement operates at a speed of 28,800 oscillations per hour and has a power reserve of approximately 45 hours when fully wound.

This mechanism offers a few very useful complications for frequent travelers, especially those traveling to different time zones. The GMT complication allows for a second time zone, indicated by the beveled blue arrow-shaped hand in the center of the watch.

Another excellent feature is the Alarm function, which is not as common as a GMT in a mechanical watch. The alarm's chiming sound is produced by a small hammer striking a miniaturized gong inside the clock.

Setting up and using the Blancpain Villeret Reveil GMT is quite simple.
