How do AP and JLC compare in terms of international brand recognition and brand value? According to a recent study by brand valuation agency Interbrand, both Jaeger LeCoultre and Audemars Piguet made it to the list of the top 50 Swiss brands. As you might expect, this list includes many Swiss watch manufacturers; because watches are one of Switzerland's biggest export items.

Audemars Piguet is the 26th most popular Swiss brand with an estimated brand value of CHF 960 Million (Swiss Francs). This makes AP the 7th most recognized Swiss watch brand. AP is one of the "Big Three" or Holy Trinity of watchmaking. Some may also say that its recent popularity is influenced by Hip Hop and RnB culture. Major celebrities such as Jay-Z and Floyd Mayweather are avid fans, helping AP become a household name.

Jaeger LeCoultre is the 36th most popular Swiss brand with an estimated brand value of CHF 673 Million. This makes JLC the 13th most recognized Swiss watch brand in the world. Many watch enthusiasts describe Jaeger LeCoultre as "the watchmaker of watchmakers." Some brands have above-average resale value, some do not. Resale value is always determined on a watch by watch basis using many factors, but there is always an average that is worth looking at for a brand.

Getting a new AP is not as easy as before. Even a second-hand Audemars Piguet watch is becoming increasingly difficult to come by, and for many reasons, including basic factors such as supply and demand, an AP watch often has a higher average resale value than a second-hand Jaeger LeCoultre watch.

Is an AP watch or a JLC watch more precise? The issue of precision is more easily understood in brands that submit their calibers to COSC or another independent laboratory such as METAS for COSC certification. Neither JLC nor AP does this. There are only a few brands on the market that not only meet but consistently exceed the COSC Chronometer standard of accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day. This requires you to register your watch on their website and create a registration to receive the extended warranty. While Jaeger LeCoultre offers an 8-year warranty, Audemars Piguet offers a 5-year warranty.
